The artist Ingrid Wildi Merino was born in Santiago de Chile in 1963, and lives in the country till she was 18 years old. She migrates to Switzerland on 1981. She studied at the Zurich University of Arts and Design (Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst in Zurich) and after that she made a post-graduated on Visual Arts at the Geneva University of Art and Design.
Since 2005 she's professor at the Geneva University of Art and Design (Haute Ecole d'Art et Design Genève), and since 2011 professor at the Master of Visual Arts at the same University. From 2007 to 2009 she has been tutor of the section of video, film and new medias of the Akademia Schloss Solitude Stuttgart. Since 2009 she's professor in Practicas escenicas y cultura visual at the University of Alcalá de Henares in collaboration at the Centro de Estudios del Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía of Madrid, España. As professor of the University of Geneva her work researches and explores the problems linked to migrations, memory, identity, dislocation, social and cultural movement.
Since 1992 Ingrid Wildi Merino has been invited to exhibit her work in different countries. In 2005 she was invited to represent Switzerland at the Swiss pavilion at the 51st Venice Biennal, Italy.
From 2007 and 2011 she has been the author and curator of the exhibition project Dislocación. For this exhibition she invited chilean and european artists, to intervene in different museums and institutions in Santiago de Chile, roaming the exhibition to the Museum of Fine Arts of Bern, Switzerland, wining the Swiss Award Exhibition in 2011, for the best exhibition of the year in this country.
She is the author of the investigation project "Arquitectura de la Transferencias, arte, política y tecnología" since 2012 in collaboration with HEAD Geneva, Switzerland.
